I love the ER-X but cant stand having a device without a serial port. So I decided to VOID MY WARRANTY and install one myself. Please Ubnt make a new revision of the device with a serialport built in!
Buy a USB TTL module from eBay (needs 3.3V). I used the following:
FT232RL 3.3V 5.5V FTDI USB to TTL Serial Adapter Module for Arduino Mini Port
Connect RX, TX and GND to the module (RED is GND)

Drill hole and glue TTL module in place:

Connect USB, install drivers and connect to the port with your favourite terminal program. Speed is 57600.
