I am using VLANs to separate some LIFX lightbulbs from my main network in order to be able to use firewall rules to block access to certain bulbs from the main network (kids having control over lights other than their own seemed like a bad idea).
What I'm struggling with is how to get the UDP Broadcasts for bulb discovery back to the main LAN so that the app can see them. The bulbs respond to a broadcast on 255.255.255.255 UDP on port 56700. Is there any way to get this to traverse the subnets? I am reading about DHCP relay but it seems to gather the broadcasts from a subnet and send them to a specific address on another subnet. I believe I need the broadcast to cast to both subnets. Would bridging the VLANs be a possible solution?
