EdgeRouter X SFP won't power up

I just pulled an EdgeRouter X SFP out of the box. When I plug the power supply into the wall, the green light comes on and stays solid. When I plug the barrel end into the EdgeRouter, it makes a click (maybe even a pop), and then the light on the power supply starts to slowly blink. No lights on the EdgeRouter light up at all.

Any thoughts if there's a way to tell if it's the EdgeRouter or the power supply? I have a 24v POE adapter along from a Unifi AP. Can you drive the ER-X-SFP via POE or am I totally stuck unless I can get a replacement?
