I'm quite new to routers thus excuse me for my dumb questions or ideas. I found an edgerouter x-spf for use and I was hoping to use it as a switch for my current network and mirror the ports to an external monitoring system.
My current setup includes a DSL router with WAN and LAN (192.168.10.0/24 incl. DHCP server, gw 192.168.1.254) and a wifi router that I use in a bridge mode. My goal was to add the er x-sfp as a switch so that:
1. ER X-SFP is connected to DSL LAN router (w. eth0)
2. WiFi router is connected to ER X-SFP (to eth2) in a bridge mode and gets addresses from DSL router DHCP
3. Wired devices are connected to ER X-SFP (to eth3 and eth4) and get addresses from DSL router DHCP
3. ports eth2, eth3 and eth4 on ER X-SFP are mirrored to eth1
Since i was reading that a switch0 port cannot be mirrored I was thinking if I could solve it via bridge? I was thinking to create a bridge br0, add eth0, eth2, eth3 and eth4 to the bridge, set the addressing to 192.168.10.1/24 and mirror all the ports to eth1. My good plan had a setback after I tried to add eth0 to the bridge (removed the address from it: I couldn't access the management console any more). Also it seems that the mirror is not working correctly for some reason.
Could you comment if I'm going to the right direction or where am I messing up?
