I am having trouble reaching a Synology NAS by hostname on 192.168.2.X from a laptop on 192.168.1.X.
My edge router is directly connected to my WAN. It is also directly connected to my NAS and a printer (addresses assigned via DHCP within 192.168.2.X) and to an ASUS wireless router configured as an AP. The AP is statically assigned within 192.168.1.X, and addresses for all wireless devices and ethernet connections to the AP are assigned by the Edge via DHCP, also within 192.168.1.X.
From a windows laptop on 192.168.1.X I want to be able to find and map my NAS by name: \\hostname
I can successfully ping the NAS and reach its config pages using its address in the browser. I can also reach the NAS filesystem via Windows Explorer by entering \\192.168.1.23.
This has only become an issue since I moved the NAS to a different subnet - I'm guessing the problem has to do with the hostname not being shared across the two subnets. I've spent many hours searching the forums and trying countless config options, and I'm sure I'm probably missing something easy. Thanks in advance for helping me troubleshoot!
