Egderouter bond failover (mSTP?)

Hi all,

I would like to configure an EdgeRouter to have a redundant trunk to two EdgeSwitches. With my regular Linux hosts I just configure two LACP bonds to the two switches which I place into one active-backup bond. So I do get redundant 2x 1Gbit connection without constant MAC table updates in the switches.

Now I'm unable to configure a bond for a bond in the ER 1.9.0 software. So I was thinking to configure the two LACP bonds in a bridge with STP enabled, which should be alright because these links are trunks and have every VLAN tagged. Unfortunately, this would mean I need to have a separate physical switch to be able to partake in another STP domain on another port (usually just one VLAN).

Since the EdgeSwitches do support mSTP, I was wondering if any work has been done to support this in the Routers as well. I'm trying to find some other references whether this is actually possible in Linux, but most documentation stops around 2001 / 2.4>2.6.

Has anyone got any experience running MSTPD on linux / EdgeOS ??

Or maybe it is better to run LACP over two different switches?
