Copy config via console port

I am connected to EdgeRouter Lite via the console port and a FTDI usb serial cable.  I am using Putty and am successful logging into the router and use CLI.  I want to copy the config file to my computer through the serial cable so I can troubleshoot a router that no longer will respond to web UI.  I have tried many methods I found in documentation and through searches including setting up an ftp server on my computer with various unsuccessful results.  None of the documentation I found clearly indicates they are for copying the config file through the console port.  How can I do this?
