I've got a EdgeRouter Pro and two Unifi Switches. How should I connect the 3 devices? I want them all to be connected with fiber optic cable, using the SFP ports. I see 3 possibilities
Scenario 1 (direct):
Router connects directly to switch A
Router connects directly to switch B
* This would be convenient, but I worry that this configuration will cause the router to function as a router and as a virtual switch at the same time. Would this have performance issues?
Scenario 2 (chaining):
Router connects directly to switch A
Switch A connects directly to switch B
* This would alleviate concerns from scenario 1, but it solves them by daisy chaning. But maybe the drawbacks of daisy chaining aren't so bad because we've got a fiber optic LAN backbone?
Scenario 3 (Backbone switch):
Router connects directly to switch C
Switch C connects to switch A
Switch C connects to switch B
* Is this the right way to go about this? I assume C's backplane throughout should at least be equal to that of switch A + switch B.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
