Okay, first, I know there are threads that LOOK like this issue, but not from what I can find.
The issue is, I can't get the router itself, via ssh, to figure out the IP address associated with a DNS entry. This stems from trying to do a cloudflare api call, but it seems like the router doesn't know what IP is api.cloudflare.com (can't ping it from the router). All that's in resolv.conf is 127.0.0.1, and the router can ping other addresses (google), but for the life of me, I can't get it to work with api.cloudflare.com.
I can't figure out if this issue is a firewall rule (does the firewall actually matter for local to local traffic), or if DNS isn't listening to the local machine, or what.
Any thoughts? I'm running 1.8.0 on an Edgerouter X.
