So for the past 2 years or so I have had a nice setup with a Synology NAS and the Foscam cameras. Running the network has been Ubiquiti ToughSwitches both are POE. I have 2 cameras (Foscam FI8910W) on the 5 port switch but are being powered by a power adapter, not ethernet. The 8 port switch only has 1 camera on it and its again not using POE to run the camera. All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago I lost all 3 cameras without touching the network at all. I have done the following to try and remedy the problem:
- New network cables
- Made sure software was updated to the latest and greatest on the Foscam website
- Factory reset cameras
- Tried different Foscam cameras that were the same model but haven't been used on the network, ever. Same connection issue comes up on every camera I try.
- Uninstalled the Survaillance Station software on my Synology (DS1815+) and reinstalled it with no fix at all. The cameras were still not working.
- The "band aid" to get them working again for about 15 minutes is to reseat the ethernet cable. This gets the connection back on the cameras.
- Another trick to making them work for about 15 minutes is to restart the ToughSwitches and magically the video reappears on the Survallance station. But again for just a little while.
I have taken the switches out of the equation because thats really the last thing that I need to troubleshoot. The minute I put the cameras to Wifi or another switch like Netgear, it worked flawlessly for a couple days. I now have the cameras on my wifi network because lets face it, the Unified gear is pretty awesome! The cameras are fast and responsive just like if they were hard wired.
Out of all of this I am saying there is something wrong with the software or hardware of the ToughSwitches and was wondering if anyone else had the same issues??
Thanks everyone!
