As the title says, I am having difficulty using port forwarding to access an openvpn server I have on a box on my home network. On all of my previous routers it was a simple task - simply forward udp port 1194, which is the port my openvpn server is listening on, to ip address 192.168.0.4, which is the ip address of my internal server box.
I have a dynamic dns server that allows me to connect to my openvpn server via *.dyndns.org.
However ever since updating to a ERPOE-5, simply forwarding udp port 1194 does not work. Openvpn client connection log shows that it cannot even access the port, as though the port is closed, despite me forwarding the port.
I've spent countless hours trying to read guides on how to make firewall rules to open port 1194, and I could not get it to work.
I then took a different approach and decided to try to change my server to listen on tcp port 443 (while changing my web gui port to another port to prevent conflicts). This got me a bit further. My openvpn client logs now show that the client can connect, but upon connecting, the connection is immediately reset. This tells me that some device is rejecting the connection, which would have to be the router, as all of this worked just fine prior to adding the edge router.
I am running out of ideas. Why can't adding a port forward rule be enough to make this work? It even checks the advanced option of adding the firewall exception, but edgemax seems to ignore that request on this particular port.
I can post my logs when I get home, but any general advice you can give me on how to resolve/troubleshoot this?
