force router redirect to FQDN

I've tried several methods in the lighttpd conf file without success, however is there a way to force when going to the router when someone goes to http://edgerouter or https://edgerouter that it forces a reload to https://edgerouter.ice.local?  I have a certificate for edgerouter.ice.local however being an internal system can also access it by it's machine name of edgerouter which then it complains the cert is invalid.
