Greetings all,
I have been searching and searching the subject of utilizing the Edge Router Pro as a load balancer. While i understand that in a large enviornment it would be best to have a dedicated load balancer, i am in a bit of a jam and need a quick band-aid for my organization.
Here is my dilema, i know the ER can do the load balancing and from what i am reading, it does it pretty well. I would be putting the ER infront of our Check Point firewall and i need the IP that's bound to the Checkpoint to be passed along to the internet, so i need the LAN port on the ER to be transparent and still be able to do the load balance. One device, not Ubiquiti, provided great load balance, but i was unable to set the LAN as transparent because the transparent setting forced me to bind it to a single WAN port. Ive seen talk about bridging the LAN on the ER, but nothing about bridging and load balancing together.
We currently have a load balancer in place but the hardware is having issues dropping packets and its effecting all 1000+ users. When i removed the load balancer and went back to a single pipe to the web, we maxxed the pipe within 2 hours...granted we need more bandwidth, but thats a topic for another day.
Any help on if the ER-Pro can handle this would be great, or if the USG-Pro would be a better option...i game for that too. If there is a post on this already and my powers of using the search function failed me, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Reardo
