Looking for a low end router to replace a long time Juniper SSG5 router. I didn't setup the router, but I have made changes to the rules via it's web GUI over time.
I have a Cox Business network connection here at the house with 16 IPs. Currently, I have one IP allocated for use for all residential use (Wireless cable router plugged into one of the ports, and then have a Gigabit switch haning off of one of the cable router for hardwire connection in my office and elsewhere for residential use), I have a second separate gigabit switch connected to another port of the router for business devices, some of which go to the Internet. Most of my business servers are offsite however, this is basically dev/test and some weather related stuff.
Really a pretty simple setup.
Looking for simple to use hopefully with GUI interface that will work well in this setup. I am getting worried that if something happens to the old SSG5 that I will have a long down time before I can replace it. Rather do it how and know how it is configured.
I am currently looking at a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X Advanced Gigabit Ethernet Routers ER-X 256MB Storage 5 Gigabit RJ45 ports which sounds like it will do what I need.
The current SSG5 has a web GUI but it now only works with IE since FF and Chrome don't like its older SSL configuration. I am wary of Cisco products due to unpatched security issues.
So... will the ER-X
Have an updated SSL web gui to access it? Can't provide my own cert?
Basic setup easy to do?
I don't currently use VPN on the SSG5, but would like to add that. Is that easy to configure/use?
Additional Licesense needed? The SSG5 needed more licenses to unlock basic stuff.
I believe it also has a CLI, something to look at later, but not right away.
A better recommended unit? Why?
