I've just setup a zone policy firewall as per tutorial

omitting the DMZ because I do not need it at the moment. The lan is at eth0 interface and at the moment the pc i am using to configure the router is directly connected to lan interface eth0.
What I am not understanding is that when I am disabling dns and icmp on all zone pairs I still have name resolving when accessing a website and I can still ping the router.
Is this normal?
