I am a relatively new Ubiquiti user with a ER-X (currently on 1.8.5) and two UniFi AP's. The ER-X was configured with a vanila WAN+2LAN2 setup via the wizards. The WAN connection is via Comcast provisioned for 120/6 Mbps.
All works pretty well except that ping times are seriously impacted while performing bulk data uploads to the WAN (e.g. uploading a batch of images to Google Phones, or running a CrashPlan cloud backup). Then pings that would normally run about 40ms go out to 2 or 3 seconds.
I beleieve I'm looking at a bufferbloat issue and am wondering how best to approach it. How best to start understanding the QoS settings? And is that even the best way to go? At least one user appears to have had more success with traffic shaping versus smart queue.
Gentle advice for a relative novice to this stuff greatly appreciated.
