So in my constant urge to learn more, I have been thinking about LAN party NOCs. Specifically the NOC at quakecon. The manager has 2 gigagit wan connections with 1 firewall per connection. Both connections are somehow load balanced, but the method doesn't seem to be explained in the video. He has 2 possibly clustered service servers for dhcp/dns/cache stats. Then, theres 2 nginx servers clustered together and running squid. I'm trying to replicate that setup, but on a smaller scale. My current hardware consists of an edgerouter lite, some netgear 8 port poe smart switch, a dell powerconnect 3448 unconfigured, and a dell r610 with proxmox. I have a 500gb wd drive that I am going to pass through to a nginx squid vm. So how would I go about routing traffic through the external squid proxy server with the edgerouter? I want it to stay a 'transparent' proxy. Sort of like what pfsense, or even edgerouter has.
